When The Smoke Clears

What a wretched place we are in. Chaos has descended. Emotion has replaced reason and unity is a pipe dream. Some probably will be upset that I called unity a pipe dream but the reality of our situation is that in order to be unified we would have to have a common goal. We no longer have goals in common as a nation of people. The moderates have allowed the radicals to rule in deference to tolerance. In turn this has pushed more and more to the extremes. We aren’t interested in our neighbor’s prosperity, only their politics. Anyone who has a differing opinion from the status quo is not entitled to their viewpoint. They are simply wrong. We aren’t concerned about context, only quippy headlines. And worst of all, both sides think they know what’s best for the other side. In one instance they are willing to mandate their beliefs and establish punitive consequences for dissent. On the other they quietly stew and that is even more dangerous because when the quiet can no longer be sustained, and believe me, it can’t be sustained, the noise will be both deafening and deadly. Don’t be fooled. This isn’t about race. It isn’t about religion either. It’s about the destruction of a cherished way of life. It’s about values that super-cede skin color, religion, age, and gender. Values that, when threatened, will be defended at cost of life if necessary. Civility is an afterthought when it comes to maintaining their place. So when the smoke clears don’t be surprised by the body count because the quiet will not be maintained much longer.
